Michelle M. Rice, Board of Directors

Michelle M. Rice is the former Executive Director of Hemophilia of Indiana, Inc., located in Indianapolis and currently serves as a Regional Director for Chapter Services for the National Hemophilia Foundation. As Executive Director of the local advocacy organization she was responsible for strategic planning, development, and operational management of a tax-exempt consumer advocacy organization, whose mission is to empower those affected with bleeding disorders in the State of Indiana through education, support, and advocacy. In her new role as Regional Director of Chapter Services, Michelle uses many of these same skills to assist other NHF chapters across the country increase their capacity to address the needs of those affected by bleeding disorders in their region.

After earning a Paralegal Certification from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in 1987, Ms Rice worked as a paralegal for a national developer and a law firm until 2000, when she accepted the position at Hemophilia of Indiana. After the birth of her 2 sons, both diagnosed with hemophilia, Ms Rice became a strong advocate for patients with bleeding disorders and an active member of Hemophilia of Indiana, the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF), and the Hemophilia Federation of America.

Her commitment to increasing hemophilia patient care, research, and awareness through education and coalition building has led to several honors, including the NHF’s Humanitarian of the Year Award, Award of Excellence – Advocacy, and Outstanding Cooperation and Teamwork Award, as well as board positions and affiliations with prominent hemophilia and health care organizations.
