Michael Sharp R.Ph., Advisory Committee 

Mike Sharp is currently an independent Pharmacy Benefit Consultant. Previously, he was the Pharmacy Director for the State of Indiana’s Office of Medicaid Policy and Planning, a division of the Family and Social Services Administration where he was accountable for all aspects of pharmacy benefit administration including budgeting, staff supervision, compliance with all State and Federal laws and contractor performance related to drug rebates, clinical services, prior authorization, claims processing, reimbursement/maximum allowable cost program and implementation of new program initiatives.

During his tenure at Indiana Medicaid the pharmacy program experienced record growth (54% to 80%) in the generic dispensing rate, implementation of the State’s supplemental drug rebate program, rapid expansion of the Preferred Drug List (54 to 80 therapeutic classes) and fiscal performance of $193 million dollars under budget. Mike was responsible for the implementation of the pharmacy carve out, development of the nation’s “best in class” maximum allowable cost program and worked closely with Federal officials during the implementation of Medicare Part D and analysis of the Average Manufacturer Price derived Federal Upper Limit. He was also a member of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Pharmacy Technical Advisory Group representing CMS Region V states. He has significant experience in pharmacy benefit management, claims processing, pharmaceutical pricing, regulatory affairs, integrated data management and pharmacy practice. He earned his pharmacy degree from Butler University in 1993. Mike has been a coach in the Carmel Dad’s Club for several years. He is married and has 3 children.
